CEGH GreenGas Platform

CEGH, the operator of Austria’s Virtual Trading Point (VTP) for natural gas, launched its GreenGas Platform in April 2022. It is the first platform in the European Union dedicated specifically to the marketing of biomethane and green hydrogen, enabling a more transparent and efficient green gas market across Europe.

The platform allows producers, traders, and consumers from all EU countries—as well as Switzerland, Norway, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom—to offer and trade green gases. As of June 2025, 94 members from 22 countries are registered, and offers have already been posted from five different countries.

Users can market Guarantees of Origin (GOs), green gas, or bundled products (combining gas and GOs), specifying key characteristics such as quality, quantity, price, and delivery terms. Offers can be published either transparently or anonymously. A built-in chat function allows interested parties to initiate negotiations directly on the platform. Key negotiation points can also be summarized in a downloadable Term Sheet, based on the EFET/CEGH Biogas Certificates Standard Agreement, while final contracts are concluded bilaterally outside the platform.

The GreenGas Platform is available in both German and English and is free of charge. The registration process is straightforward, with a Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure ensuring secure and verified membership for all participants.

Platform features are continuously enhanced based on user feedback, allowing the system to evolve and respond to the needs of the green gas market. By connecting stakeholders across Europe and providing a simple, secure, and transparent marketplace, the CEGH GreenGas Platform is helping scale biomethane and green hydrogen trade across the continent.
