Vinci Energies – Finalist Inspiration Challenge
Project name: Zero emission gas sampling system
A new 0 emissions system has been implemented at a biomethane injection station to address methane emissions. GRTgaz, the French gas transport operator, required a solution to meet the European Parliament’s 2024 law mandating a 30% reduction in global methane emissions by 2030. Previously, gas samples were released into the atmosphere, but the new system, developed with a German partner and branded by VINCI, reinjects these samples into the network using a high-pressure recirculation pump. This approach eliminates methane release, prevents gas loss, and can be applied to over 600 biomethane stations in France. The solution reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 50 tons of CO2 equivalent per station and costs around €25,000 per analysis point.
