SixRing – Finalist Inspiration Challenge

Project name: Low-cost biomass processing technology to increase biomethane production by up to 100%

SixRing has developed an innovative biomass treatment process that addresses the challenge of lignocellulosic biomass, which is hard to fully decompose. Their process effectively separates biodegradable cellulosic fibers from lignin in waste agricultural and forestry biomass. Studies show that adding just 0.2% of these cellulosic fibers to biogas production can increase methane output by 18%, and at 3.5% loading, methane production rises by 85%. This technology is versatile, handling even contaminated materials, and operates at ambient conditions, making it cost-effective and environmentally friendly. It enhances biogas production and revenue without requiring significant additional capital.
