Elisabeth Maria Huba-Mang
For more than four decades, Elisabeth Maria Huba-Mang has connected biogas with some of the energy transition’s most fundamental challenges: rural development, food security, sanitation, resource efficiency and gender inclusion.
Since 2014, she has chaired FnBB / GERBIO, the German Society for Sustainable Biogas and Bioenergy Utilisation, guiding cooperation among practitioners, researchers and operators while strengthening links with organisations including DBFZ, FNR, IZES and KTBL. Her work has also helped broaden participation in the association, including small-scale farmers, women operators and international partners.
Her career extends far beyond Germany. Elisabeth has contributed to biogas programmes and research in Nepal, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Lesotho, Bangladesh and China, combining technical expertise with a strong focus on communities and closing nutrient loops. She is also a co-author of the German reference work Biogas-Praxis and a co-founder of the German Toilet Organization.
A long-standing mentor and educator, she has worked to create opportunities for younger women entering the sector while promoting participatory and gender-sensitive approaches to sustainable development.
Why vote for Elisabeth? Because her leadership demonstrates the transformative potential of biogas far beyond energy production — linking technology with communities, circularity and inclusion while opening the sector to the next generation of women leaders.
