Benedikt Rolfes is CEO of Alternoil GmbH, where he drives the development of a market-making ecosystem for sustainable biomethane in transport. Under his leadership, Alternoil has built an open-access refuelling network that creates immediate and verifiable demand for biomethane, unlocking investment in production plants and logistics chains while delivering measurable climate benefits — over 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided annually at the tailpipe-equivalent.

The company’s model is designed for scalability, with standardised station designs, robust operations, and transparent commercial frameworks that can be replicated across EU transport corridors. By adopting a “demand-first” approach, Alternoil reduces risk for new projects, accelerates learning curves, and raises biomethane’s profile through visible stations and branded fuels at key logistics hubs.

Benedikt’s work positions biomethane as a cornerstone in Europe’s decarbonisation strategy. By advancing waste-based biomethane for heavy-duty transport, Alternoil contributes directly to EU objectives on renewable energy in transport, Fit-for-55, and the circular economy, while complementing the roll-out of electrification and hydrogen where these solutions are not yet viable.
