Vice President Membranes at Evonik Operations GmbH, Marl Germany , Evonik

After studying chemistry at the University of Hanover he worked as a research fellow at the Institute of sanitary engineering and waste management at the University of Hanover in the field of anerobic digestion and membrane processes for wastewater treatment. After earning his doctorate in the “Treatment of landfill leachate with reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membranes”, he began his career as project engineer at Amafilter, Germany in 1997.
From 2001, he was product manager for the Membrane Technology Product Line at the Amafilter Group, Netherlands before moving to Evonik in 2005.
At Evonik, he initially headed the Membrane Technology Group in the Process Technology & Engineering Service Unit where the idea for Evonik to become a membrane maker was borne.
In the framework of the startup of Evonik’s membrane business, he first assumed the position Director Business Management SEPURAN® in July 2010. In this function he headed the business development for the global biogas upgrading market. In January 2016 Dr. Baumgarten took over his current position incl. P&L responsibility for the global Membrane business of EVONIK. Since 2019 he is also responsible for Evonik’s Innovation Growth Field Membranes.
