Balti Biometaan OÜ
Balti Biometaan has played a pioneering role in the development of biomethane in Estonia and the wider Baltic region.
Through its shareholding in Biometaan OÜ, the company helped establish the first agricultural-feedstock biomethane production plant in the Baltic countries, which began operating in 2018. Since then, it has continued to test and implement solutions aimed at improving plant performance and expanding the possible uses of biomethane.
The installation of a hammermill in the solid-feedstock pretreatment line increased biomethane production by approximately 20%. The company has also piloted digestate-based compost and fertiliser production and explored the use of biomethane in high-efficiency solid oxide fuel cells.
Its innovation extends beyond the plant itself. Balti Biometaan has contributed to Estonia’s first biomethane grid injection and developed both fixed and mobile off-grid biomethane filling solutions. A remote system using compressed biomethane can also supply energy applications in locations without an electricity-grid connection, creating potential for both everyday and resilience-related uses.
Why vote for Balti Biometaan? Because it combines measurable efficiency improvements with practical experimentation across the entire biomethane value chain — from feedstock preparation and nutrient recovery to grid injection, mobility and decentralised energy supply.
